Same Sex IVF Assessment: Explore Lesbian IVF Options

Save £200 on a Same-Sex Female Couple’s Fertility Assessment

Same-Sex Female Couple’s Fertility Assessment

The Same-Sex Female Couple’s Fertility Assessment is a series of pre-treatment medical assessments designed to help you understand your reproductive situation as well as the treatment options available for you as a lesbian couple. This includes a two-hour consultation with a fertility specialist where both female partners are assessed in order to recommend the most effective option for you and help you in the decision making process. You will also receive a personalised treatment plan and a complete cost breakdown if you are interested in starting this journey with IVI London.

Your Same-Sex Female Couple’s Fertility Assessment includes:

  • 2 Pelvic ultrasound scans (1 for each partner): Otherwise known as a transvaginal or gynaecological scan, this test uses ultrasound imaging to examine the morphology of the ovaries and uterus, ovarian reserve, and general health of your reproductive system.
  • 2 Ovarian Reserve Assessment: Evaluation of your ovarian reserve by assessing the Antral Follicle Count (AFC), an indirect measurement of the number of eggs present within your ovaries.
  • A 60 minute review consultation with one of our fertility specialists: You’ll meet with a doctor to discuss your pelvic ultrasound scan results, and the most suitable next steps based on your individual circumstances. We’ll talk through the available options, including reciprocal IVF or ROPA (shared motherhood), IUI, and IVF with donor sperm.

Frequently Asked Questions

Lesbian couples have several IVF treatment options available, depending on their medical needs and family goals. These include IVF with sperm donation, reciprocal IVF (also known as shared motherhood or partner IVF), and artificial insemination through IUI. Each approach allows lesbian partners to explore different paths to parenthood with support from our experienced team.

Reciprocal IVF is a popular choice for same-sex couples, allowing both lesbian partners to be biologically involved in the IVF process. One partner undergoes ovarian stimulation and provides the eggs, which are fertilised in our advanced IVF laboratory using donor sperm. The embryo is then transferred into the uterus of the other partner, who becomes the gestational carrier.

Artificial insemination via IUI involves placing washed donor sperm directly into the uterus during ovulation. It’s simpler, less invasive, and more affordable than full IVF treatment. With IVF, embryos are created in a lab using either partner’s eggs, allowing for more control and the possibility of shared motherhood. Both options are available to lesbian couples at our fertility clinic.

Yes. Lesbian couples can choose a known sperm donor, such as a friend or family member, but they must undergo full screening and meet the legal and medical requirements set by the HFEA. We also offer access to trusted sperm banks for those choosing anonymous sperm donation. Our clinic can guide you through any legal issues that may arise with donor insemination.

Success rates for IVF for lesbian couples vary depending on age, ovarian reserve, and the treatment path selected. In general, younger women and those with a strong ovarian reserve see the highest success rates. Our fertility clinic will discuss realistic outcomes with you early in your IVF journey.

Yes. In reciprocal IVF, you and your partner can choose who provides the eggs and who carries the pregnancy. This decision is usually based on factors like age, health, and personal preference. Your fertility specialist will guide you through the decision-making process to ensure the best possible outcome.

The Fertility Assessment for Same-Sex Female Couples at our clinic starts at £590. Full IVF treatment costs depend on your chosen pathway—whether it’s donor insemination, IVF, or reciprocal IVF. We always provide a full breakdown of costs and timelines before starting your treatment, with no hidden fees.

Yes. Our fertility assessment for lesbian couples includes ultrasound scans and ovarian reserve testing for both partners. This helps us provide accurate advice, rule out any infertility concerns, and tailor your treatment plan.
