Female Fertility Assessment
The IVI Fertility Female Fertility Assessment is designed to assess potential problems leading to infertility or difficulties when conceiving, either trying to conceive naturally or through fertility treatment.
At IVI Fertility, we believe that personalising fertility treatments is key to helping more women achieve their goal of having a healthy baby. Our aim is to provide you with the most accurate diagnosis to help you understand your situation and assess the different options you may have. Having a clear picture of your reproductive situation will help you feel confident and informed about your options and future chances of success in starting a family.
Your Female Fertility Assessment will take up to 90 minutes and includes:
- Pelvic ultrasound scan: Otherwise known as a transvaginal or gynaecological scan, this test uses ultrasound imaging to examine the morphology of the ovaries and uterus, ovarian reserve, and general health of your reproductive system.
- AMH Test & Ovarian Reserve Assessment: Evaluation of your ovarian reserve via an AMH Test and assessing the Antral Follicle Count (AFC), an indirect measurement of the number of eggs present within your ovaries.
- An in-depth review consultation with one of our fertility specialists: You’ll meet with a doctor to discuss your pelvic ultrasound scan results and the most suitable next steps based on your circumstances.

Is the Female Fertility Assessment right for me?
Whether you’re actively trying to start a family or simply seeking information about your chances to conceive in the future, a Female Fertility Assessment can help to inform many types of family-planning decisions. It’s a proactive step that gives you a clearer understanding of your reproductive health and helps guide your next steps, whether you’re ready to start now or planning ahead.
It is suitable for:
Women who wish to understand their fertility, for now or for future planning.
You don’t need to be actively trying for a baby to benefit from a Female Fertility Assessment. If you’re thinking about starting a family in the future and want to know where you stand, this assessment provides a snapshot of your current fertility status. It’s ideal for women who want to feel informed and empowered when planning for later.
Women who are exploring fertility treatment options without a partner.
If you’re considering becoming a parent through sperm donation or other fertility treatments, understanding your fertility health is a key first step. This assessment helps single women understand their options and choose the most suitable path forward.
Women or couples who are planning to start a family and wish to find out their chances of conceiving naturally.
For those getting ready to try for a baby, a fertility check can offer valuable reassurance. It also identifies any early issues that could impact your chances of conceiving naturally, allowing you to take action if needed before delays become frustrating.
Women or couples who have struggled to conceive for longer than 6 months (if over 35) or 12 months (if under 35).
If you’ve been trying to conceive without success for this length of time, medical guidance is recommended. A Female Fertility Assessment helps identify potential causes of infertility and offers tailored recommendations to help improve your chances of success.
Women or couples who have previously had fertility treatment and wish/need to start another cycle.
If you’ve undergone IVF or other fertility treatments in the past, the Female Fertility Assessment allows us to review any previous outcomes, reassess your current reproductive health, and adapt your treatment plan to optimise future results.
Women who are concerned that they may be affected by the common causes of female infertility, such as:
- Advanced maternal age: Fertility naturally declines with age, particularly after the age of 35.
- Ovulation disorders: Conditions such as PCOS or irregular menstrual cycles can affect egg release.
- Blockages within the fallopian tubes: These can prevent the egg and sperm from meeting, making conception difficult.
- Other gynaecological conditions like endometriosis: This condition can affect egg quality, implantation, and overall reproductive health.
Your Female Fertility Assessment – step-by-step
Complete your patient registration
Before your first appointment, you will need to complete your IVI patient registration by filling out a medical questionnaire and required HFEA forms. You can complete and submit these electronically through our Patient Portal.
Arrival at your IVI Fertility London clinic
Once you arrive at our clinic, our reception team will welcome you and direct you to the appropriate floor and waiting area. We’ll also help you make sure your patient registration is complete before your consultation.
Your initial consultation
During your initial consultation, your consultant will ask you a few questions about your medical history and discuss your family-building goal. If you have previously had fertility treatment, it’s important that you bring any relevant results or reports with you so these can be reviewed with your consultant.
Pelvic exam and 3D ultrasound
A pelvic exam and 3D ultrasound scan will also be performed. These procedures detect if there are any anatomical or structural issues that could affect your fertility, such as fibroids or blockages inside the fallopian tubes. If any issues are found, they will be addressed in your recommended treatment plan.

Female Fertility Assessment FAQs
A fertility test for women is a set of diagnostic tests used to evaluate your reproductive health and identify any potential challenges with conceiving. At IVI, our Female Fertility Assessment includes a pelvic ultrasound scan, otherwise known as a transvaginal or gynaecological scan. This test uses ultrasound imaging to examine the morphology of the ovaries and uterus, ovarian reserve, and general health of your reproductive system. Also included is a 60 minute review consultation with one of our fertility specialists. You’ll meet with a doctor to discuss your pelvic ultrasound scan results and the most suitable next steps based on your circumstances.
Your appointment usually takes around 60 to 90 minutes. This includes time for your scan, review of your medical history, and an in-depth consultation with one of our specialist fertility doctors.
A transvaginal ultrasound scan may feel slightly uncomfortable, but it’s generally not painful. If a blood test is recommended, we’ll take a prick blood sample or venous blood sample, both are quick, safe, and standard in fertility testing.
There are different types of fertility tests, depending on your symptoms and goals. These include ultrasound scans to examine the ovaries, blood tests to assess female fertility hormones, and in some cases, additional testing such as thyroid hormones, progesterone test, and follicle tracking. If relevant, a semen analysis may also be suggested for male partners.
Yes, some forms of hormonal contraception may influence hormone readings and cycle patterns. Please inform your doctor about any contraception you’re using so we can interpret your results accurately.
No special preparation is needed for the female fertility test. We recommend wearing comfortable clothes and bringing details of any previous test results, especially if you’ve had tests for conditions like PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), irregular periods, or hormone-related symptoms.
Yes, your partner or a friend is welcome to attend. Many women feel more supported when they bring someone along to their fertility consultation.
Yes, your doctor will go through the ultrasound scan findings during your appointment. If blood tests are needed, these may take a few days, and we’ll contact you with the full results and next steps.
If your fertility test indicates a concern, such as low ovarian reserve, irregular hormone levels, or suspected polycystic ovarian syndrome, your doctor will guide you through your treatment options. We’ll provide a personalised plan tailored to your specific situation, whether you’re planning for future pregnancy or seeking fertility support now.
