Michael Ellard is a native of Northern Ireland and graduated from Queen's University Belfast in 1992. He moved to England in 1996 where he initially trained in IVF at the Royal United Hospital, Bath. During this post he developed and managed the hospital's egg donation service.
He moved to the Mersey region in 1999 to complete his specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology and became a consultant at Wirral University Teaching Hospitals (WUTH) in 2005. He is the fertility lead at WUTH and has developed the service, in collaboration with other units to provide a satellite IVF service since 2013. His other clinical interests include recurrent pregnancy failure and reproductive endocrinology. In addition to his clinical work, Michael is the Divisional Medical Director for Women, Children and Breast services at WUTH.
Up until recently Michael was the training programme director for senior O&G trainees within the North West of England. He is an accredited trainer in reproductive medicine ultrasound and management of the infertile couple. Michael is also an editor for the British Journal of Hospital Medicine.
