Recurrent miscarriage is defined by three or more consecutive pregnancy losses. It is also known as recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL). This is different to recurrent implantation failure (RIF), which refers to three or more unsuccessful transfers of euploid embryos during IVF.

While each occurrence is different, both indicate that something is preventing an ongoing pregnancy. While this experience can be devastating, it does not mean you will not be able to have healthy pregnancies in the future.

During this special event, Dr Cesar Diaz-Garcia, Medical Director of IVI London, examines the potential causes of recurrent miscarriage and recurrent implantation failure. As well as offering a detailed overview of treatments that can help to overcome the causes of pregnancy loss, Dr Diaz provides an in-depth explanation of the role of the embryo and the endometrium in conception and early pregnancy.

Pre-implantation genetic testing

Genetic abnormalities in embryos are the single most common cause of miscarriage. Pre-implantation genetic testing is a screening method that can detect whether an embryo contains genetic abnormalities. It is performed during an IVF cycle.
